With the popularity of silk wedding flowers that has come to take over the traditional usage of wild fresh flowers, one thing that has remained the same is the meaning of each specific flower type and what it signifies. Always, the flower has been a symbol or token of one’s longing, devotion and love. But there are many types of flowers out there with many special meanings attached to them. Either to help you to organize your bridal ideas into something that is centralized into a theme, or to make sure that your message is crystal clear when you decide to use a certain flower for your special wedding occasion, there is always the flower meanings that you can use to convey the subtlety and complex emotions of your wedding day, no matter if those flowers are silk or real.
The most famous bridal flower is the rose, as it symbolizes love and happiness. It also speaks of beauty and even without words, a rose does the talking perfectly with its presence. White lilies are wonderful to signify the purity of the wedding and the sacred journey of the couple as they embark on their new life as husband and wife. They also represent virginity. Ivies are also used in weddings to denote the wedded love which is perfect for the setting.
Red chrysanthemums signify the feeling of love. Blue violets are for faithfulness and a promise, especially suitable for your wedding day. Peonies bring about the mood for a happy life in the marriage that one seeks, while tiger lilies whisper of wealth and pride. Don’t forget the ‘forget-me-nots’ as these flowers symbolize true love. Good fortune is important too when one chooses the path of marriage and nothing speaks of the wish and hope better that the apple blossoms. When you want the feel and symbol of magnificence, beauty and stately glory, cala lilies bring the meaning really well into your wedding. For the eternal love of your new lives together and a symbol for fertility, use orange blossoms.
To make the meaning that these flowers hold even stronger, you are of course allowed to use them in combination. Daffodils’ modest regard and baby’s breath’s fruitfulness and reward for a happy union can be mixed with the ever so eloquent beauty of the roses. If you are superstitious, you may avoid certain flowers that are associated with a negative meaning such as sweet pea which means departure or goodbye, petunia which means anger and resentment and marigold that holds for cruelty and jealousy.
But if you have already made up your mind to use any of the flowers that may not necessarily mean something good in the flower dictionary, do not despair as even though they may have some old fixed meaning to them, it does not mean that you can’t appreciate your own unique association that you have with them. Your own memory of the flowers that triggers the love feelings in you and your partner may just be the best symbol for your perfect wedding.
